ENVIRONMENT
We take our environmental responsibilities seriously and we are always striving to improve our record.
Recycling
The majority of our annual requirement of newsprint is now made entirely from recycled fibre. We also recycle all of our waste paper, cardboard and lithographic plates; this accounts for more than 95% of our total waste output.
Carbon footprint
Our electricity consumption has been significantly reduced following the installation of special equipment to correct the reactive power loads generated by newspaper presses. We have also introduced motion-sensitive lighting into our factory space to reduce ambient energy wastage.
Renewable energy
We now purchase all of our yearly 400 megawatt hours of electricity from the UK’s leading renewables provider, Ecotricity.
Solar installation
We are currently drawing up plans to install 1,000m2 of solar panels on the roof of our building. |
